Florida COVID-19 death toll tops 36,000 as governor blocks local mask mandates

ORLANDO, Fla. — As of Monday, more than 36,000 people in Florida have died from causes related to the coronavirus.

State health officials reported an additional 41 virus-related deaths in the state, bringing Florida’s total death toll since the pandemic began to 36,009.

Of the latest deaths, 15 were reported in Central Florida, including five in Seminole County.

On Monday, the state also reported 3,075 new cases of the virus.

That brings the total number of cases in the state since the pandemic began to 2,245,853.

The increases come as Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday morning that he was suspending all local government emergency orders related to COVID-19 effective immediately, including mask mandates. Click here to read more.
