Florida increases cancer research funding by $10 million for new cycle

Cancer currently ranks as the second leading cause of death for residents living within the state of Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis announced $60 million in grant awards from the Florida Cancer Innovation Fund on Wednesday.

The announcement also opened applications for the 2026-27 cycle, which will feature $70 million in total funding.

Cancer remains Florida’s second leading cause of death, with nearly 40% of residents expected to receive a diagnosis in their lifetime.

This increase represents a $10 million boost over the previous year to support state-based research and treatment initiatives.
