Florida reports fifth straight day of fewer than 5,000 new COVID-19 cases

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida reported its fifth straight day of fewer than 5,000 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.

Health officials reported 4,853 new cases that day.

This brings the total number of cases in the state since the pandemic began to 1,957,586.

The state also reported an additional 62 virus-related deaths.

Those deaths bring the total virus-related death toll in Florida to 32,543.

These increases come as two new FEMA-run vaccination pop-up sites are set to open in Central Florida in the coming days.

Beginning Thursday, FEMA will move its current satellite site from Kelly Park to Barnett Park, 4801 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32808.

FEMA will administer vaccinations there from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 13.

On March 14, the satellite site will move to South Econ Park, 3850 South Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando, FL 32817.

The sites are walk-up only, meaning that no appointments are offered.

FEMA offers various satellite sites to allow eligible persons to be vaccinated at no cost.

Those currently eligible include:

  • People aged 65 and older
  • Health care personnel with direct patient contact
  • Residents or staff members of long-term care facilities
  • People deemed “extremely vulnerable” by a physician
  • A sworn law enforcement officer of any age
  • A K-12 school personnel member of any age
