ORLANDO, Fla. — As Florida is dealing with record coronavirus case numbers and death totals, COVID-19 vaccines continue across the state.

State records show more than 1 million vaccines have been administered in Florida.

Most of the vaccines in the state have been for healthcare workers and first responders, but that has now changed.

Many Central Florida counties are offering vaccines for people 65 and older. Most vaccination sites are requiring appointments.


Here is a list of counties that are distributing COVID-19 vaccines.

Seminole County

People 65 and older are received the COVID-19 vaccine in Seminole County.

The Oviedo Mall became the first public vaccination site to open in the state. This week the county is quadrupling its space in the mall in order to not only help more people get their first dose, but accommodate those who need to get their second dose.

Officials said the new location will be inside the old Sears location.

Orange County

Orange County health officials have stopped taking appointments for the vaccine.

The health department said it is at capacity and will be through the next few weeks.

Osceola County

The Department of Health in Osceola County temporarily closed registration for vaccinations and will resume the process when it receives more vaccines from the state.

Officials said first responders and those 65 and older will be prioritized and be the first to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

Brevard County

In Brevard County, there will be 22 Publix pharmacies that will have vaccines for seniors, DeSantis said.

DeSantis said that each Publix administering vaccines will be able to provide 100 to 125 shots per day.

Video: Select Publix pharmacies to start distributing COVID-19 vaccine in Florida, governor says

Some Publix stores will soon begin administering COVID-19 vaccines, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced during a news conference in Ocala.

About 15,000 Moderna doses will be sent to 22 Publix stores in Citrus, Hernando and Marion counties, DeSantis said. Click here to see the full list of participating stores.

Publix is preparing to make appointments through an online scheduling system. The vaccines will be for people 65 and older.

Flagler County

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that several Publix stores in Flagler County will offer the COVID-19 vaccine.

The governor said the vaccine will be available for people 65 and older.

The stores will give out 100 to 125 vaccines per day, and an appointment is required.

The best way to receive updates about COVID-19 vaccination appointment availability and testing, is to text “FlaglerCOVID” to 888-777.

Volusia County

Save the date: Volusia County is opening more than 1,000 COVID-19 vaccination appointments Wednesday.

County officials said the vaccination event will be held at the Volusia County Fairgrounds in DeLand. The site will operate as a drive-up site and preregistration is required.

Florida residents who are 65 year and older will be eligible to receive the Moderna vaccine.

Residents can make an appointment beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday online or by phone.

Vaccination appointments will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Officials said 1,150 appointments will be available each day.

Once a time slot is full, appointments will no longer be available during that time slot, county officials said.

Publix stores in Volusia County will also offer the COVID-19 vaccine to seniors, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced.

Lake County

The Lake County Department of Health is administering second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 26 through Jan. 28.

Residents who received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine in Lake County will receive a call with site and appointment information.

Those who received a second dose must present photo identification and the CDC vaccination card that was given to them during their first vaccination.

Second dose appointments for the Pfizer vaccine will be scheduled beginning Feb. 2 through Feb. 4 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you are not contacted by the due date on your card provided at your appointment, officials asked you to call 352-268- 9299.

Lake County is not offering new vaccination appointments at this time. But for information on how to make an appointment, call 866-201-6909.

Sumter County

Sumter County is not offering COVID-19 vaccination appointments at this time.

Polk County

The Department of Health in Polk County opened a COVID-19 vaccine hotline Friday, Jan. 8. All reservations for its vaccine event have been filled.

Residents 65 and older can call 863-298-7500 to schedule an appointment as additional vaccines become available.

Due to heavy call volumes, the county said callers may experience a busy signal. Those who are eligible for the vaccine may call the line to provide their information and ask questions of staff.
