Florida reports more than 5,700 new COVID-19 cases, 127 virus-related deaths

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida health officials reported 5,737 new COVID-19 cases in the state on Monday.

Of those cases, 1,321 cases were reported in Central Florida.

The state also reported 127 additional virus-related deaths, including six in Central Florida. Seminole and Flagler counties each added two deaths, and Volusia and Brevard counties each reported one death. Six other local counties reported no new deaths related to COVID-19.

Florida’s virus-related death toll is now 28,288, with 472 of those being non-Florida residents.

Of the new deaths reported, eight were in Central Florida. Brevard County reported the most deaths, with five people.

In the next few days, Walmart, Winn Dixie and Publix will begin to distribute the vaccine.

The rollout is part of a White House plan to make the COVID-19 vaccine more widely available and help people who live in communities without easy access to hospitals or convention centers.
