Foster mother accused of killing child says she asked agency for help multiple times

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The foster mother accused of killing a foster child in her care said she asked the agency involved for help multiple times.

Lakeisha Mitchell said she expressed concern about the behavior of Joy King Castro, who remained in her care despite her concerns.

Castro was found lifeless in a bathtub in Mitchell’s home.

During the interview, Mitchell told police she had been reaching out to the foster agency, Brevard Family Partnership for help to deal with the child’s behavioral issues.

Mitchell told the investigator that Castro was having tantrums and being aggressive with other children, even though a behavioralist was assigned to her case. But the situation wasn’t improving as time moved on.
