Fun Spot to ramp up police presence following double-shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. — Officials at Fun Spot America in Orlando said they will beef up security following a shooting that injured two people over the weekend.

Police said Jamal LaFortune, 21, opened fire inside the amusement park on Saturday night, hitting 35-year-old Marketa Duncan in the shoulder and 20-year-old Marquis McGary in the foot.

Both victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

A spokesperson for the entertainment complex said some of the changes will be behind the scenes but that guests will start to see more security guards and officers armed and ready.

On Saturday, off-duty officers were scheduled to begin their shifts at the complex at 9 p.m., but the shots rang out about 30 minutes prior.

Officers will start patrolling at 8 p.m. now, and the complex is also looking to hire a private security company that would start working at 7 p.m.

Officers were able to chase LaFortune down on foot following the shooting.

Investigators said they're not sure why LaFortune started shooting, but the Duncan and McGary were not the intended victims.

On Fun Spot's Facebook page, guests wrote about how shocked they were someone would start shooting in the crowd. Many said they'll still come back but also feel bags should be checked at the entrance.

Security cameras were working when the gunman opened fire, but Fun Spot has not released the video.
