Hot and steamy Friday: Heavy rain, lots of lightning possible this afternoon

ORLANDO, Fla. — It will be a very steamy Friday in Central Florida.

Daytime highs will be near the mid-to-upper 90s.

Meteorologist Kassandra Crimi said she doesn’t think we will see tied records like Thursday, but the extreme heat index readings will settle in earlier.

You can expect heat index values to reach 102 to 110 degrees.

On Thursday, it felt like 100 degrees in most spots after 1 p.m. On Friday it will feel like 100 degrees by 10 a.m.

Marion, Flagler, Sumter and Polk counties are all under a heat advisory.

In addition to the heat, we’ll have a good chance for showers and storms.

Widespread showers and storms will become possible around 2 p.m.

Heavy rain and lots of lightning will be possible.

On the plus side, the rain will start around 2 p.m. in many locations. It will cap our heating and actually cool us down some.

Channel 9 meteorologists are watching a disorganized area of showers and storms off the coast of Africa.

It has about a 50% chance of developing over the next five days. Both the Euro and GFS weather models have this headed toward Honduras and Nicaragua. We will continue to monitor.
