LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd has ordered a machine recount of the votes cast in the Republican primary election for U.S. Representative District 11. The recount is being conducted by the Lake County Supervisor of Elections in accordance with state statutes.

The machine recount will proceed under the watch of the county canvassing board, starting this morning at 8 am Elections staff prepared for the recount by sorting ballots and completing a mandatory Logic and Accuracy public test at the elections office.

Members of the public are permitted to attend the recount proceedings at the elections office. Officials noted that seating for attendees is limited.

Alan Hays, a Lake County elections official, commended the election staff as preparations were finalized. “I am proud of the flexibility and passion that our team displays throughout an election. A recount requires the same level of precision and commitment as the election itself,” Hays said.

The complete recount results must be submitted to the Division of Elections no later than 3 pm on Sunday, Aug. 23.
