Lake County blood lab worker accused of stealing patient information, opening credit cards

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lake County woman used her job drawing blood for lab tests to steal patients’ identities, open up credit cards and go on shopping sprees, investigators said.

Channel 9 found out Kadesa Sayles lost her job at LabCorp.

“She had access to confidential information, which included Social Security numbers, as well as credit card numbers,” said Fred Jones, of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Sayles was responsible for drawing blood and doing data entry, but investigators said she also kept a ledger full of patients’ sensitive information and used it to get herself numerous credit cards and to make herself an authorized user on their credit cards.

“Paying her own bill and using someone else's hard work and money to pay for, you know, things that she was neglecting, which is not fair to those victims at all,” said Jones.

They said she paid a car payment and furniture bills using the stolen information, and also went shopping in stores in Lake and Orange counties, racking up thousands of dollars in charges.

Investigators said several victims came forward and all of them had been to LabCorp, which eventually led deputies to Sayles.

A SWAT team went to Sayles’ home to serve the warrant, because the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said it has had issues with people who live in the home.

Sayles’ mother said she is convinced her daughter is innocent.

“She’s a good parent, she is a good mama and she takes care of her kids,” said Leteita Sayles. “She didn’t have nothing to do with it.”

Deputies said the suspect could face federal charges for HIPPA violations.
