GROVELAND, Fla. — Groveland has new money for its water system. Here’s what it means for you.

The city says a new plant and state funding are on the way, but it will take years

After a fall of outages and boil water notices, Groveland says help is coming for its water system.

At a special meeting Monday, the city council approved an agreement with the state for drinking water improvements: $3.88 million in grants and another $3.88 million in an interest-free loan. With money for a brand new plant, the city now has more than $32 million in grants and zero-percent loans for drinking water, according to T.J. Fish, the city’s director of transportation and public works.

“We’re dealing with a fairly antiquated system with some aged infrastructure,” Fish said.

The new plant is already being built in the north part of the city, and the city has said it’s expected to be done by mid-2028. Fish says it will work with the older northern plant as a backup.

“That’s going to create that redundancy and resiliency that people expect. So we won’t have water outages,” Fish said.

What if something breaks before then? Fish says the computer problems at the older plant have been fixed, but an old pipe can still break. He says the fix takes time.

“I don’t want it to take 30 years to fix 30 years of neglect. We’re trying to do it in 10,” Fish said.

The city also paused a planned water rate increase after the outages.
