LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Starting on Tuesday, people over the age of 65 can make appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Lake County.
The county opened its portal for scheduling the appointments online starting at 2 p.m. Within 15 minutes those appointments were full.
“Vaccine distribution in Lake County is part of a long-term, multi-faceted state initiative with several existing and developing options for immunization,” said Lake County Board Commission Chairman Sean Parks in a statement. “We have been listening to concerns from our community and wanted to expedite appointment-based immunization for our residents and vulnerable seniors.”
The county previously only offered its allocated vaccines on a first-come first-served basis and had to urge residents not to camp out overnight to receive it. The county said its health department will continue to offer vaccines on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here for information about that program.
