TAVARES, Fla. — Years after Hurricane Irma destroyed the seaplane base and marina on the shore of Lake Dora in Tavares, construction is finally underway to rebuild.
After years of working with insurance companies, engineers and contractors, construction is underway to make the new, more than $8 million marina bigger, better and sturdier.
Nearby business owners said they've missed the boat traffic and they can’t wait until its rebuilt.

Officials said they will make the old marina the seaplane plane ramp and move the marina farther down the shore in order to utilize more of the shoreline.
Officials also said more than 90 percent of the costs will be covered by the insurance and it could be completed by next year.
