Lake Mary doctor arrested on hit-and-run charges in fatal motorcycle crash

HEATHROW, Fla. — Channel 9 was there Thursday when a Lake Mary chiropractor accused in a hit-and-run bonded out of jail.

Dr. Kevin Wynne was charged after police said he struck a motorcyclist in Volusia County and then left the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Wynne hit Sabra Vocaturo, 50, with his sport utility vehicle in February on State Road 415.

Vocaturo was thrown from her bike into oncoming traffic. Authorities said two drivers ran over Vocaturo, who died at the scene. Those drivers stopped to help but told officers there was nothing they could do.

FHP officers said Wynne drove to a parking lot in Deltona after the crash and called a friend to come pick him up. Wynne's lawyer then turned the SUV in to the FHP the day after the crash.

FHP officers said Wynne's cellphone records indicate he was in the area at the time of the crash, and investigators found a receipt in his SUV showing he had paid a bill an hour and a half earlier at a New Smyrna Beach bar and grill.

Wynne was arrested at his Heathrow home on Thursday by the Florida Highway Patrol.  He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

Wynne was being held in the Seminole County jail with bail set at $50,000.

The FHP said had Wynne had not left the scene, he only would have been ticketed for reckless driving. But the felony charge he now faces carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.

Wynne owns Wynne Family Chiropractic in Lake Mary, and his website claims he gives special care to accident victims, saying he became a chiropractor after being injured in a car crash.

“He seems like a very caring doctor. I mean, I don't have anything bad to say about him,” said Kim Wiggins, one of Wynne's patients.
