LEESBURG, Fla. — Leesburg police have identified the woman who was shot and killed during an attempted home entry early Aug. 25 as 23-year-old Ananda Conley of Leesburg.
According to an update from the Leesburg Police Department, Conley lived about two to three blocks from the Crest Avenue home where the shooting occurred. Investigators said the homeowners had recently moved into the neighborhood and did not know Conley.
Police said Conley’s friend and roommate reported that she had been drinking and left her home upset over a personal situation before the incident.
Investigators said Conley went to the Crest Avenue residence for unknown reasons and attempted to enter through a carport door.
Police said the homeowner repeatedly told Conley to leave and warned she was armed. He fired a handgun through the door after she kept trying to get inside, breaking a window. Conley reached through the broken window to unlock the door, and the homeowner shot her again.
Conley was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation found cuts on Conley’s arm consistent with injuries from reaching through broken glass. Blood on the inside of the door, likely Conley’s, is still being tested.
Leesburg police await Medical Examiner’s toxicology results. Investigators say evidence so far aligns with the homeowner’s statement.
Police said the homeowner has been fully cooperative. The case is under review by Leesburg Police and the State Attorney’s Office to decide on charges.
