In the meantime, COVID-19 cases hit a new pandemic record on Christmas Day.
For the second day in a row, Florida reached more than 30,000 new cases. That beat a record set in August during the delta variant wave.
Florida researchers said we may be waiting weeks to reach the peak of the COVID-19 surge.
