ORLANDO, Fla. — Make-A-Wish launched its global “WishMakers Wanted” campaign this April to celebrate World Wish Month. The initiative aims to recruit supporters and corporate partners to help grant life-changing wishes for children battling critical illnesses.
The campaign comes at a time of urgent need in the United States, where a child is diagnosed with a critical illness every 20 minutes. While Make-A-Wish grants an average of more than 40 wishes daily in the U.S., officials say two children remain on the waiting list for every one child who receives a wish.
Throughout April, Make-A-Wish chapters and international affiliates are collaborating with celebrities and corporate partners to share testimonials and provide opportunities for public involvement. Supporters can join the community by visiting the organization’s dedicated website at wishmaker.org.
The campaign seeks to recruit “WishMakers” of all kinds to help close the gap for children currently on the waiting list.
Leslie Motter serves as the president and CEO of Make-A-Wish America. She emphasized the clinical and emotional impact these experiences have on young patients.
“We know that wishes play an important part in a child’s medical journey, delivering the hope and joy needed to fight and overcome a critical illness,” Motter said. “Through “WishMakers Wanted,” we invite communities to come alongside us and help us get closer to delivering the life-changing power of a wish to more deserving children around the world.”
Disney serves as the largest corporate partner for the organization, granting a wish every hour of every day.
During the upcoming Disney Week of Wishes, the company will host a special event at Disneyland Resort featuring an Avengers-themed day for wish children.
This week-long celebration is designed to feature wishes being granted across various divisions of the company.
