GIBSONTON, Fla. — A 21-year-old Oregon man faces DUI manslaughter and driving without a license resulting in death charges after a crash killed another driver Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. Oct. 10 at Gibsonton Drive and U.S. 41.

Troopers said Pablo Mendez-Leyva was driving a Ford pickup west on Gibsonton Drive when he entered the intersection against a red light and struck a Cadillac Escalade traveling north on U.S. 41.

Both drivers were taken to hospitals. The Escalade’s driver, a 54-year-old Gibsonton man, later died from his injuries, FHP said. His name was not released.

Troopers arrested Mendez-Leyva and took him to the Orient Road Jail.
