Man dies in apparent bulldozer accident at Volusia County landfill

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A man was killed in an apparent bulldozer accident at a Volusia County landfill, according to deputies.

Deputies said a man who was working as a traffic controller at the Tomoka Landfill was killed on Wednesday.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the landfill at 1990 Tomoka Farms Road around 10:15 a.m. after employees reported the accident.

Deputies said the 57-year-old man was working to show customers where to dump their materials.

He appeared to have been run over by a bulldozer operating in the area, according to deputies.

Deputies said there were no witnesses to the accident and the man was found by a customer walking past the site.

The man’s identity was not released.

Deputies said the man was a day laborer at the landfill.

A death investigation is underway and there are no charges at this point.

Deputies said it appears the man’s death was a tragic accident.
