VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A man is dead following a shooting outside a Deland-area home.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday, Volusia Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to N. Boulevard Court off Woodland Avenue after receiving a trespassing complaint.
VSO said the caller told 911 dispatchers that he had shot the trespasser.
Investigators said the 911 caller remained on scene and “was standing at the side of the road with his hands up when deputies arrived.”
Deputies reported finding a man with multiple gunshot wounds dead on the driveway.
A VSO spokesperson said initial details in the case indicate that the shooter lives at the address where he called 911. Officials said the man who was shot to death used to occasionally stay on property, but was no longer permitted to be there.
Investigators said on Tuesday night, the homeowner found himsleeping inside the home’s laundry room. VSO said an argument between the two men led to the initial trespassing call from the homeowner.
More information released by the agency on social media details how “the shooter said the trespasser advanced on him despite warnings to get back or he would be shot. The shooter then fired several rounds.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to VSO.
