10-year-old boy dies after being hit by car while walking to school with his mom

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers in Marion County said a 10-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car while walking to school with his mom Wednesday morning.

The boy, Ja’Siah Williams, was struck around 6:51 a.m. on County Road 318, east of Northwest 110 Court, according to a report.

A 34-year-old driver from Silver Springs was going west on CR-318 in a 1998 Ford Escort when the crash occurred.

Troopers said Ja’Siah walked south to cross CR-318 once other cars going east on the roadway had passed.

The Silver Springs driver tried to avoid Ja’Siah but could not and struck him before running off the road and hitting several mailboxes and a tree, troopers said.

Ja’Siah was taking to UF Shands hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 7:35 a.m.

Officials with Marion County Public Schools said Ja’Siah was a student at Reddick-Collier Elementary School.
