Mother and 5-year-old child shot in vehicle attack in Ocala

The shooting was reported around 9:45 p.m. near Southeast 11th Avenue by local police

OCALA, Fla. — A mother and her 5-year-old child were shot Monday night after someone opened fire on the family’s vehicle in Ocala, police said.

The shooting was reported around 9:45 p.m. Monday near Southeast 11th Avenue, according to the Ocala Police Department.

Police said a father, mother and their child were driving south when a vehicle behind them began shooting. Their vehicle was hit several times.

The mother and child were taken to a hospital, where both were listed in stable condition, police said. The father was not reported injured.

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and said it is not connected to a homicide reported Sunday, Sept. 13.

Ocala police are asking residents in the area to review doorbell-camera and home-surveillance footage from around the time of the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Ocala Police Department at 352-369-7000.
