PALM BEACH, Fla. — A surface-to-air missile system has been installed at the newly renamed Donald J. Trump International Airport in Palm Beach as part of increased security in the area.
The system is designed to respond to aircraft or other objects perceived as threats.
A similar setup has also been placed outside Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s private residence.
“This is the last line of defense that will eliminate the threat to the president of the United States,” aviation expert Dewitt Ingram said.
Decorated former U.S. Navy fighter pilot Matthew “Whiz” Buckley said he was surprised the additional security had not been deployed sooner.
“I’m surprised those SAMs haven’t been there longer,” Buckley said.
The U.S. Secret Service requested that the systems be installed.
