MELBOURNE, Fla. — A robber armed with a shotgun who attacked a man who was changing lights could still be on the loose in Brevard County.
Melbourne police told Channel 9 that they're taking a closer look at two cases from this week even though they've made an arrest.
Police said the suspect admitted to being at the scene of Thursday's robbery, but said he didn't know what was going to happen.
Police responded to a home where a 69-year-old man was confronted by a robber wearing a bandana. Police said the man asked the robber to leave and was struck in the head with the barrel of a shotgun.
Police said the gunman left in a minivan with at least two other people.
"They're getting more, excuse the language, ballsy. I mean, no repercussions. They just do it and think nothing (of it)," neighbor Rene Bowling said.
Police think the incident might be related to another case Wednesday night in which a black man wearing a bandana entered the Tip Top Mini Mart with a rifle and demanded cash.
"I think we're always concerned when we have the same type of identifications of people around your neighborhood. It always bothers you and makes you more careful," neighbor Bill Davis said.
The minivan in Thursday's robbery was spotted in Palm Bay after the people inside drove it off the road and ran, police said.
Police said Elijah Jenkins, 19, was found hiding in some brush. Investigators said he admitted to being at the robbery and police found a weapon and a bandana in the van.
Jenkins is charged with being a principal in a first-degree armed robbery.
