EUSTIS, Fla. — Mold has forced Eustis Middle School to close its science lab and three connected classrooms, the school district said.
Spores formed during the winter break, but no students were exposed to the mold, school officials said.
"Our custodians were in and they cleaned the tile floor in one of our science labs, and they turned on the fume exhaust hood,” said Sherri Owens, a school district spokeswoman.
It was mistakenly left on during the break, bringing moisture into the room, Owens said.
Crews cleaned the classrooms in which mold spores were found.
“The custodians did come in and do a deep clean of the room,” Owens said. “We also had our folks come in from risk management and take some samples."
The school expects to reopen the classrooms next week.
