Driver rescued from woods day after mysterious crash

OCOEE, Fla.,None — A car crashed into the woods in Ocoee Saturday night but the driver wasn’t rescued until Sunday night.

Ocoee Police haven’t released his name, but the driver told them the last thing he remembered was a late drive home. He recalled waking up this morning lost and confused. Investagators estimate he was in the woods as many as 10 hours. He called his family for help.

The SUV was found deep in the trees off Maguire Road and Old Winter Garden Road. Police said it appears the driver tried to stop before crashing into two with signs and ending up deep in some woods.

The Isuzu Trooper was missing its hood and the windshield was smashed. It was stuck and stalled 60 yards of the main intersection. Two wreckers were called in to pull it out.

The driver was not badly hurt and is expected to make a full recovery. He told cops he either lost control, or was cut off at the intersection.

“Maybe it was late coming home from somewhere and he fell asleep behind the wheel,” said Anthony Daka, a delivery driver at his family’s restaurant, which is near the crash scene.

But no one witnessed the crash so police aren’t entirely sure what happened.

“Since we've been here we haven't really seen any accidents so I was little shocked,” Daka said.

The driver never received a sobriety test because he was found so many hours later. Police aren’t investigating the crash because no one else was hurt.
