KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to Florida’s Space Coast this weekend as NASA prepares to launch its newest space telescope.
The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is scheduled to lift off at 7:26 a.m. on Sunday from Kennedy Space Center, marking the beginning of a mission designed to help scientists better understand some of the biggest mysteries in the universe.
Named for Nancy Grace Roman, NASA’s first chief astronomer, the telescope will study dark matter and dark energy, two of the most puzzling components of the cosmos.
NASA scientists hope Roman’s observations will provide new insight into how the universe has evolved and why it is expanding at its current rate.
For people across Central Florida and visitors from around the country, Sunday’s launch is also an opportunity to witness the next chapter in space exploration from the Space Coast.
But those planning to watch the liftoff in person should be prepared for crowds.
NASA expects thousands of out-of-state visitors to make the trip to the Space Coast for the launch. Viewing areas could be busy, so spectators are encouraged to plan ahead and arrive early.
With the telescope poised to begin its mission, all eyes will be on the Florida sky Sunday morning as NASA sends Roman into space.
