VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — New Smyrna Beach is set to transition its residential and commercial solid waste services from Waste Pro to FCC Environmental Services on Oct. 1.
City staff met with representatives from FCC Environmental Services to review transition efforts and confirm operational readiness. The provider is fully staffed with local management personnel and new drivers who are completing training ahead of the service launch.
Currently, 13 of the 17 collection vehicles assigned to New Smyrna Beach are onsite, with the remaining trucks expected to arrive soon.
Residents may see vehicles throughout the city as drivers conduct practice runs to familiarize themselves with collection routes before official service begins.
Delivery of residential totes is scheduled to conclude over the coming week.
In addition, delivery of new commercial front-load containers is underway, with most of the city’s 533 commercial containers scheduled for delivery next week.
The company recently mailed informational flyers to commercial customers detailing service specifications.
To support the startup, FCC Environmental Services has committed extra drivers, trucks and management personnel during the first several weeks of operation. The transition includes the implementation of vehicle GPS tracking and collection verification systems to monitor fleet operations and accountability.
City staff have received a high volume of calls from residents seeking information about the service change, primarily regarding cart sizes and options for additional totes. Approximately 147 residents have submitted requests for smaller waste containers.
FCC Environmental Services will officially begin solid waste collection in New Smyrna Beach on Oct. 1.
