New type of COVID-19 test shows whether you’ve ever had the virus

ORLANDO, Fla. — Doctors said a new type of COVID-19 test is going to be huge for those considered long-haulers who never knew for sure if they had the coronavirus.

The FDA just gave an emergency use authorization to a new test called T-Detect. The test has a sensitivity rate of 97% and it checks the T-cells in your blood to show if you’ve ever had COVID-19.

“T-cells are like memory cells, they will not fade away from your system for a very, very long time,” said Dr. Aftab Khan, an internal medicine specialist.

The test can be ordered by clicking here.

The blood can be drawn for it by a mobile phlebotomist at your home or at a LabCorp center.

Doctors said for long-haulers who still have heart issues and no taste or smell from being sick, the results of the test could impact their treatment plan going forward.
