OVIED, Fla. — A new public art installation is bringing oversized butterflies to Solary Park in Oviedo.
The city and its Public Arts Board announced Friday that installation of “Wings of Joy” is complete. The project features five butterfly sculptures placed throughout the park.
The idea dates back to 2022, when the Public Arts Board proposed adding a sculpture project to Solary Park. Artist Diane Boswell later presented a concept featuring butterfly designs printed on metal panels.
The five sculptures feature different butterfly designs and are intended to be interactive, giving families and other visitors opportunities to pose with and photograph the artwork.
“The Oviedo Public Arts Board is thrilled about the Wings of Joy installation,” board chairman Keith Koons said. “This has come after many years because of the hard work of many people in the city. We hope that it will bring joy and inspiration to all Oviedo residents and visitors.”
More landscaping coming to Solary Park
The city said crews have also been working on grading and drainage around the installation.
Butterfly-friendly landscaping will be added around the sculptures as part of additional improvements to the area.
Oviedo is encouraging visitors to interact with the sculptures and take photographs at the display.
