Ocoee holds Memorial Day ceremony for fallen veterans

OCOEE, Fla. — Monday is Memorial Day, and one city in Orange County recently honored veterans.

The City of Ocoee held its Memorial Day Ceremony in person on Thursday for the first time since the pandemic began.

People from the city gathered at the Lakeshore Center on Starke Lake to recognize the fallen heroes who served.

The Ocoee Police and Fire Department Honor Guards presented the colors and placed a wreath on the city’s memorial wall.

People who attended these events said the community should reflect on the men and women who gave their lives for freedom.

“My husband is a veteran,” Sue Lowrie said. “We have many veterans in our family from all branches. So, it’s very important to remember the people that gave us all this.”

Retired First Sergeant Daila Espeut Jones was the event’s keynote speaker and a former chair of the Orange County Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council.
