Officers: Friends drive drunken woman home, find children locked in room

SANFORD, Fla. — Investigators said a Sanford mother became so drunk on a night out with her friends that she passed out, and when they used her keys to get into her apartment, they found her two young children locked in their rooms.

Zoe Cullum, 25, was arrested and charged with child neglect of her 4- and 1-year-old children, authorities said.

911 caller: "My friend, actually, we went out drinking. She's really drunk and she's passed out."

Cullum's friends said they did not expect to see her children locked in a room.

Caller: "We can't just leave the kids here alone."

Investigators said after pounding on the door, the woman's friends used her keys to get inside, where they expected to find a babysitter.

"That's a huge no no for a parent. You don't leave your kids to go drink. That's real irresponsible to me," said neighbor Kywonn Mcguire.

According to Cullum's arrest report, she claimed someone was supposed to be there with the children, but could not provide a full name or a phone number.

Cullum's mother told WFTV she did not know who the alleged babysitter was.

"It wasn't a good choice to just leave your kids and get wasted. I don't believe she should have her kids if she's going to do that," said neighbor Zoe McGinnis.

Child Protective Services is placing the children with family members, and Cullum is not to have contact with them, and she is not allowed to drink alcohol.
