DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A Daytona Beach fire lieutenant is off the job and won't be coming back.
Brad Dyess was arrested in June after his girlfriend claimed he attacked her and fired a gun near her head.
Dyess is also a member of the Warlocks Motorcycle Gang.
The city's fire department will now add restrictions on which groups firefighters can belong to when they're off duty."Lt. Brad Dyess has resigned from the Daytona Beach Fire Department and is currently no long working for the city of Daytona Beach," Lt. Larry Stoney of the Daytona Beach Fire Department said.
Dyess had been on unpaid leave for over a month and the subject of an internal affairs investigation, but not for being a member of the Warlocks.
It involved his arrest in June for allegedly abusing his girlfriend and firing a gun near her head in Cocoa Beach.
"It was centered, basically, around those particular charges and to see what violations he may have had concerning our policies and procedures with the fire department," Stoney said.
Eyewitness News asked the fire department why Dyess' involvement with the warlocks was not being investigated. Officials said there was no policy in place at the time that specifies which organizations a firefighter can and cannot be a part of.
"It was very difficult for us to make any headway with other actions with Lt. Dyess," Stoney said.
The department is creating a new policy that will address clubs and organizations.
It is currently under review and could be in place in a matter of months.
Dyess is charged with two counts of domestic battery and shooting inside a home, which is a felony.
According to court records, his case is still pending.
