Crews were still out Thursday working to dry the area out and monitor the drainage process.

A six-inch pump discharged a stream of rushing water into the Kirby Drive Drainage System in Titusville Thursday.

Kirby Drive and neighboring roads like Bryn Mawr and Westwood Drives were drenched Wednesday with four to five inches of rainfall.

Water rose over the roadway, up to mailboxes and into a number of yards.

At least one driver had to have their vehicle towed out of the area.

“It came past my sidewalk about maybe three or four feet,” resident Carl Duvall said. “Now there, it went about maybe five feet from the house…that’s too close and we’re not in a flood zone.”

Brevard County officials say there were no reports of water intrusion into any homes Wednesday, but high winds did knock down trees and leave debris in the roadway. It was cleared by Brevard County road and bridge crews.

Meanwhile, officials say some drainage improvements are already on the way for the area.

Based on previous storm seasons, the county has plans for drainage improvements in the Westwood Drive and Bryn Mawr Drive areas. The project is currently in the surveying phase.

A second phase of the project will include Kentucky and Oklahoma Streets, and Kirby Drive, all north of Westwood Drive.
