ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County jury has convicted a man on two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, stemming from a violent encounter that left a woman and her daughter dead.
Doujon Griffiths, 26, shot and killed Massania Malcolm and left her one-year-old daughter, Jordania, dead inside a hot vehicle back in 2021.
The deliberation and the conviction took about 20 minutes. Jurors got the case around 4:00 pm Thursday and handed down a verdict just before 4:30 pm. The trial started Monday with jury selection.
Griffiths was a childhood friend of Malcolm and lived with her and her boyfriend, Jordane Reid. After he was asked to leave the home, prosecutors say he shot Jordane Reid multiple times and took off in a vehicle with Malcolm and Jordania. He testified against Griffiths at the trial.
“This was somebody that we helped, this was somebody that we loved, this was somebody that we nurtured,” said Latoya Reid, Malcolm’s mother and Jordania’s grandmother. ” My daughter helped him. My daughter fed him. My daughter gave him a place to stay. “
Malcolm was found shot to death inside that car two days later. Her daughter’s body was next to her. An Orange County detective testified that temperatures inside the car climbed above 120 degrees and the baby likely died of heat exhaustion.
Griffiths will be sentenced on November 16 at 10:30 am, Reid said she will be in the courtroom and plans to read a victim impact statement.
“We are fighting to the finish for Jordania and Massania,” she said
