BELLE ISLE, Fla. — The body found inside an SUV in an Orlando retention pond over the weekend has been identified as Stephanie Hollingsworth, the missing Belle Isle mother, Orlando police said Monday.
The Belle Isle Police Department and family have been notified.
The medical examiner’s office is working to identify the cause of death, police said.
Investigators said the car’s license plate matches the one that belongs to Hollingsworth.
For weeks, police, volunteers and family members had been searching for Hollingsworth. The mother of three was last seen Sept. 25 at a Walmart, then at a Bank of America, where she took out $20.
In a prepared statement, the family said: “Stephanie was loved by her family and married to her soulmate. Together they were raising three strong, well-rounded boys. They are all heartbroken. The finding of Stephanie Hollingsworth has now brought closure to the family.”
