Central Florida ‘Step Up for Down Syndrome’ walk raises 200K

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida hosted its largest fundraising event of the year in Orlando Saturday morning.

DSACF held the “Step Up for Down Syndrome” Walk at Lake Eola to raise money in support of families who are raising a child with Down syndrome.

The organization raised over $200,000, which it said will be used for the following resources:

— Covers the cost of group classes with early intervention learning skills

— New family celebrations

— New parent baskets

— Hospital outreach

— Family and community group events

— Educational workshops for parents

— Social skills classes for teens with Down syndrome to prepare for adulthood

— Social gatherings for adult advocates

In addition to the walk, there were also games, raffles, face painting and obstacle courses at the event.
