Judge to decide whether to reinstate death sentence for Orange County killer

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County judge is scheduled to decide Friday whether they will reinstate the death sentence for convicted killer Bessman Okafor.

The decision will come just as the state of Florida filed the same motion in another capital case in the 9th Circuit.

This all follows the Florida Supreme Court's surprise ruling last month to reinstate the death penalty in a 2015 Polk County murder.

That's when it decided the jury's verdict in a capital case did not need to be unanimous.

Now, the state hopes a judge will apply that precedent for Okafor.
