Man carjacks driver and crashes after shootout at Orlando gas station, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. — Police in Orlando responded to a shootout and carjacking at a gas station that ended in a car crash early Sunday morning.

Officers said the incident happened at around 12:48 a.m. at the Wawa gas station on Raleigh Street.

Police said an argument between a group of men erupted into a shootout.

Kevin Steplight, 33, and two men inside a car shot at each other before they drove off, according to a report.

Officers said Steplight was shot in the exchange, then carjacked a blue Ford Mustang to flee the scene.

Steplight then crash the vehicle near the gas station at Metrowest Boulevard and Kirkman Road, police said.

Steplight was taken to a hospital for treatment and has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carjacking with a firearm.
