More than 40 firefighters respond after abandoned charter school in Maitland catches fire

MAITLAND, Fla. — Firefighters from several agencies responded to a large structure fire in Maitland on Saturday.

Officials said that more than 40 firefighters from Maitland Fire Rescue Department, Winter Park Fire Department, Orange County Fire Rescue and Seminole County Fire Rescue came together to battle the blaze.

The fire was reported around 11:22 a.m. off Mechanic Street near Maitland Boulevard.

Officials said the fire broke out in a 3,290-square-foot building that was once the Summit Charter School.

Firefighters said the school has been abandoned for a decade or more.

Officials said no occupants are expected to be found inside and no injuries have been reported.
