Need a meal for a student during Thanksgiving break? These 13 locations are offering free meals today

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Public Schools will be handing out free meals at 13 different schools on Monday.

The event starts at 9 a.m. and ends at noon.

Organizers said students don’t have to live in Orange County to be eligible for the free meals.

“You could be a volunteer from your neighborhood and deliver the meals to the children,” said Lora Gilbert, senior director for OCPS food and nutrition program.

The event is possible because of a waiver provided by the United States Department of Agriculture.

“We’ve never been able to do this before. There is no ID, no paperwork, anything required,” Gilbert said. “The children need the food, and that’s what we are here for.”

Here’s how it will work.

It’s a three-hour drive-thru event which begins at 9 a.m. Monday.

You can pick up the curbside meals at any of the 13 schools listed below.

You can drive up and simply state how many children need meals, and the prepackaged kits will be placed in your car.

Organizers will serve the following: seven breakfast meals, seven lunch meals, five snacks and five dinner meals.

Parents, volunteers and community members can pick up the meals.
