Orange County first responders train during simulated mass casualty event

WINTER PARK, Fla. — Orange County Fire Rescue’s Special Operations conducted some specialized training this week to prepare for a mass casualty event.

Crews simulated a car crash into a day care at the fire rescue’s training center on Forsyth Road in Winter Park.

The training included search and rescue of patients, drones, as well as treatment on the scene and transport to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer.

Officials said the mock drill was an opportunity for firefighters and the hospital to train together.

“We’ve actually had this happen in Orange County at least three times, if not more,” one attendee said. “So, when those events happened, we’ve had speed bumps because of how complex these are.”

The special operations program was created to respond to unique calls like structural collapses and rope rescues.
