ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County leaders headed back to the nineties on Tuesday, but they didn’t need a time machine to do it.

They opened a 4-foot-long time capsule from 1995 that was hidden in one of the columns at the Orange County Courthouse. It was supposed to be opened in November 2020, but the pandemic delayed things.

It was filled by then-mayor Linda Chapin; back then the position was called chairman.

Current mayor Jerry Demings pulled out old photos submitted by Lockhart Middle School and letters from county residents including one from Chapin herself about the future in 2020.

Demings said some things have changed while others haven’t over the last 25 years. He was a captain with the Orlando Police Department in 1995.

Both Demings and Chapin shared their predictions for the next 25 years predicting innovation and less divisiveness.
