ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Parents and youth baseball players could soon face new costs to use Orange County Public Schools baseball fields.

At a school board workshop on Tuesday, Orange County Public Schools leaders discussed a proposal that would require non-school-affiliated teams to pay to use school baseball facilities for practices and games.

District officials said the possible fees are tied to the additional work required when outside groups use school property, including custodial cleanup and the presence of a site administrator.

“It is extra work on the custodial staff to clean up, and we do believe we need to be able to have a site administrator there,” Vazquez said.

The proposal could affect travel-ball, recreational and other community teams that rely on school fields when public parks or private facilities are unavailable.

School board members were still discussing the measure at the time of the workshop. It was not immediately clear how much teams could be charged, which fields would be included or when any new policy could take effect.

If approved, the change could add another expense for families already paying for uniforms, equipment, tournament entry fees and travel costs.

Orange County Public Schools has not yet announced a final decision. Updates will follow.
