Ballot in plastic baggie caused brief Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office evacuation

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Supervisor of Elections building on Kaley Street was briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon after reports of a suspicious package, Orlando police said.

Orlando firefighters said the package was a ballot sealed inside a plastic baggie.

The supervisor of elections said staff identified the suspicious envelope among vote-by-mail ballots delivered to the office.

Out of an abundance of caution, they said the deputy stationed at the office evacuated the warehouse where vote-by-mail processing happens and called in firefighters.

Police said the building was safely evacuated just before 3:30 p.m. and that the situation was resolved minutes later.

The investigation shut down west Kaley Street and Lucerne Avenue.
