ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A major new expressway through Orange and Osceola Counties is moving closer to construction. Wednesday night, residents can get a look at what’s coming for S.R. 534. Specifically, for phase two of the project.
That is a proposed 3.5-mile section of expressway connecting Narcoossee Road to Cyril’s Drive in Orange and Osceola counties.
S.R. 534 has led to back-and-forth among residents, Orange and Osceola Counties, and the Central Florida Expressway Authority. Despite this, CFX said they expect construction to begin on phase two in early 2027.
The controversy stems from phase two, which is expected to run through a corner of the Split Oak Forest.
CFX said that, for drivers who choose to use this proposed toll road, it will connect S.R. 417 near Boggy Creek in Orange County to relieve congestion in Osceola County, improve connections to Orlando International Airport, and ease congestion on local roads.
For those who widely oppose the development, they said it’s to protect wildlife and stop the development of green spaces.
At the same time, CFX said 1,550 acres previously entitled for development next to Split Oak will be set aside for conservation.
S.R. 534 in its entirety is a 14-mile, limited-access toll road that extends from S.R. 417 near Boggy Creek Road in Orange County to Nova Road in Osceola County.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Narcoossee Middle School. CFX said leaders will be available to answer any questions residents in the project area may have.
