Suspects still at large in Orlando strip mall shooting that killed teen, Sheriff’s Office says

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County deputies are still looking for suspect information connected to the shooting death of a 17-year-old Thursday evening at a strip mall in the 2000 block of Americana Boulevard.

Werlens Morissett was found with obvious trauma when deputies responded to a strip mall at Americana Boulevard just east of South Texas Avenue for an aggravated battery call.

Morissett was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspects are still at large and the investigation is ongoing. Crime scene technicians worked the scene until noon Friday.

Deputies believe there were people on scene who may have witnessed the shooting. A store owner said the shooting was captured on video.

Several windows were shot out, and it is unclear what evidence crime scene technicians gathered inside.

Locals told Channel 9 that shootings aren’t unfamiliar to the area.

“In this area and all over the place, this is nothing new, especially in this shopping plaza” said Orlando resident Luiz Linder. “We have such good things here, and people just get the stereotype that Florida and Orlando is just full of crazy people.”
