Orlando man arrested for DUI and leaving scene after fatal crash

Christopher Laureda (WFTV)

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a 19-year-old Orlando man who was arrested after driving under the influence, running a red light, in Orange County early Sunday morning.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Central Florida Parkway and International Drive. Investigators said Laureda was driving a 2004 Ford F-250 westbound in the outside lane when he ran a red light and entered the path of a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound in the inside lane.

The front of the pickup truck struck the left side of the Jetta, causing the truck to overturn onto its left side.

The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta was transported to ORMC, where they were later pronounced dead. A passenger in the Jetta was also brought to ORMC as a trauma alert with serious injuries.

Passengers traveling in the Ford F-250 were not transported to the hospital and remained at the crash site. After the collision, Laureda left the scene on foot. Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office located and detained Laureda shortly afterward.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrested Laureda on charges of leaving the scene of a crash and DUI involving death. FHP reported that additional charges are pending as the case remains an active criminal investigation.
