School board member launching contest for students to design new Osceola County logo

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — The fight over Osceola County’s new logo continues.

On Monday, residents angrily told county commissioners the logo did not properly represent the heritage of the county.

Now Osceola County school board member Jon Arguello is weighing in, offering $500 in scholarship money to a student who can make a better design.

Arguello will announce the competition at the school board meeting Monday.

“I know our precious resources are our students, and I think they have the talent to do a logo better than this one,” he said.

County commissioners and staff are not required to get on board with what Arguello wants to do, but he hopes they do.

“This is certainly not in my lane, but the community is my lane,” he said.

He said all of the logos created by students will be displayed, and the community will help narrow the field to 10 from which a winner will be chosen.

Arguello said even if the winning student’s design is not used as the county logo, they still will receive the scholarship money.
