State tries to block Osceola County man accused of murdering his family from using insanity defense

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Prosecutors in Osceola County are trying to prevent attorneys for a man accused of murdering his family from presenting evidence that he didn’t understand what he was doing.

Anthony Todt has pleaded not guilty to killing his wife, three children and a dog inside their home in 2019.

The state has filed a motion asking the court to limit and prevent the defense from entering testimony or presenting any evidence concerning Todt’s mental health before, during or after the killings.

Prosecutors said there have been no filings to say he is using an insanity defense.

They just don’t want his mental state taking center stage in the trial.

The judge has set a hearing for the end of the month.
